The one week semester break went by in a whizz, I can't quite remember what I did. I know I was very busy, and didn't have a chance to slack at home much.
There was supposed to be a picnic but we had to shift it indoors due to the threatening dark clouds.
And I remember I went shopping and bought this gorgeous pair of Havis at a steal! facebookless thinks that one only has one pair of feet, and therefore do not require too many pairs of slippers. I object and thus, this recent pair adds on to my collection!

Lack of schedule with quite a bit of time at hand
Quite a few people have responded with absolute shock at my timetable, or rather the lack of one. I basically attend a fixed 3 hours session per week.
I know I know... it's unfair and blah blah blah. But u know, it's hard on me too!
Sometimes, it's easier to have to keep to a schedule - you know exactly what you want, where to go and what to do!
During my vast spare time, I think about the days of having to rush from one place to another. I think of the timelines I have to keep to and things I have to do.
Nothing comes close to those days the past weeks. I don't foresee this going on for too much longer, so I ought to cope with this "problem" of mine properly for now.

Difference in viewpoint, or mere difference in culture?
What do you define as adventure?
Sky-diving? Bungy jumping? Getting lost in the jungle? Or simply sitting it out (on hard seats mind you!) on a 24-hour train ride in China?
I was recently perplexed by what-seemed-an-obvious-choice decision which turned out to be totally out of my league of thoughts.
Between a 24 hour rail trip and a 3 hours flight at almost similar prices, there are people who actually opted for the 24 hour rail trip. U can almost see that glitter in their blue eyes as they ooooh-ed at the mention of a train ride across China...
My lecturer, a Caucasian who is in love with Europe and alternative adventures, was one whose eyes glittered. I told him bluntly there is nothing to see in that 24 hours but yellow land, according to my Chinese friend. He must have thought I was silly and didn't comprehend the beauty of adventure and all things different. Well, he's right! I really don't understand!
I suspect I am not alone. I am almost sure that I am one of many million Asians who will only deem these long and likely to be disgusting train rides as mere drudgery.
I can only simplify the recent phenonmenon down to the difference in culture.

More composure now?
After 3 whole non-Coke days, I gave in today when a small serving came as part of my Macca's quarter pounder meal which by the way is quite a rip off! I wouldn't call this a small, medium or large meal. It feels more like a kids' meal and I paid a blooming AUD5.75 for this!
I am not really apologetic coz I did afterall keep off it for 3 days. That's a feat!
To further reward myself, I treated myself to a soft serve at Hungry Jacks on the way to catch the bus home.
In between Coke and ice cream, we attended our housemate's graduation ceremony and gosh, it's this whole lot of young, positive, untainted people there! I was once there too, when I first graduated. It was really quite a lifter to one's spirits to be surrounded by so much positive energy and I must say I quite enjoyed myself.
I am also proud to say that I feel more driven and focused this semester to finish up my studies. I think the visit home did me damn good. I feel humbled by the kindness of my family and friends, and I am better equipped to deal with things that I didn't quite take to last semester. This evening was a good test in some ways and I dealt with it with more composure.

24 hours without Coke
I have managed to stay off Coke for more than 24 hours now... It gets me a little cranky several times in the day. And I decided to vent my frustrations by conjuring my masterpiece salad! I just had to overload it with avocado, one of my other indulgence!
I had salad for lunch two days in a row... hopefully it will help ease some weight!
Meanwhile, counting down to another 24 hours without Coke.

Coke Mania
This doesn't bode well.
I have had a Coke every single day for 2 weeks straight now.
Tomorrow will be the day I am getting it out of my life!

Court reporting
One of the things I love about my journalism course is how the lecturers send us out to the lion's den to experience the pleasures and perils first-hand.
Last year, as part of my assignment, I had to go to a hearing and take notes to write a story. And boy, the process of getting to an interesting hearing was cool. I almost forgot how fun it was and was reminded of the pleasure yesterday when i tagged along my 2 friends who had to do the same thing this semester.
I was reminded of how unfriendly and irritating the guards at the courts were... how greenhorn me was led on a wild goose chase to different court rooms, listening to most boring cases ever!
I had it tough... unlike my 2 friends who had their lecturer telling them exactly which session to attend. All my lecturer shared last year were tips on how to get around the guards and how to behave in court. That was it! My batch was left on our own to look for cases, zipping in and out of court rooms to get a good story.
Tougher it was, but I learnt a great deal more. I only know I love this so much more when I compared it to my friends' smooth sailing experience.
