Court reporting

One of the things I love about my journalism course is how the lecturers send us out to the lion's den to experience the pleasures and perils first-hand.

Last year, as part of my assignment, I had to go to a hearing and take notes to write a story. And boy, the process of getting to an interesting hearing was cool. I almost forgot how fun it was and was reminded of the pleasure yesterday when i tagged along my 2 friends who had to do the same thing this semester.

I was reminded of how unfriendly and irritating the guards at the courts were... how greenhorn me was led on a wild goose chase to different court rooms, listening to most boring cases ever!

I had it tough... unlike my 2 friends who had their lecturer telling them exactly which session to attend. All my lecturer shared last year were tips on how to get around the guards and how to behave in court. That was it! My batch was left on our own to look for cases, zipping in and out of court rooms to get a good story.

Tougher it was, but I learnt a great deal more. I only know I love this so much more when I compared it to my friends' smooth sailing experience.
